OPENING CEREMONY

at`Iolani PalaceThis ceremony marks the official beginning of the 2008 Aloha Festivals event on O`ahu. Traditional hula and chant introduce our O`ahu Royal Court on the grounds of the beautiful and stately `Iolani Palace.

Louise and I made our way to the Palace to partake in the festivities. First thing to do is buy our Aloha Ribbon and find a seat. The Royal Hawaiian Band entertained and played for the dancers. There was a few speeches, singing, dancing, and chants.

The Royal court arrives with the Honor Guard leading the way.

This year's theme, "Hula, The Art of Hawaiian Dance," celebrates Hawaii's history through the art form.

The role of the Royal Court is to perpetuate the Hawaiian culture and traditions, and events are designed to remind people about the history and heritage of Old Hawaii.

Court members are selected by a special committee and must be at least part-Hawaiian.

This is a beautiful pageant to watch, was here 3 years ago at this same time so of course Louise and I have been to kind of event before.

Tonight there is a Ho`olaule`a (block party) in Waikiki. Eight stages of entertainment , lots of food and lei vendors and hula crafters will be spread along 12 city blocks on Kalakaua Avenue. Its the gathering of the year. And here Louise and I set at home, that is because we had to much fun running around this afternoon. You will have to check out "send gas money" to see what we did today. Oh well what can I say other than it is raining, and we are getting OLD!!!!!! More stories to come of........Two Old lady and One Old Fart
